The vicious cycle:
- Rural poor moves into the city for work, in turn aids the economic growth of the city.
- No ‘affordable’ housing is available for these people.
- They start living in slums or ‘unauthorized’ colonies, close to common amenities.
- As land value pressures increase, they are uprooted & displaced to outskirts of the city, far away from their sources of employment, amenities for their families and children, education, health care and mass transport locations.
- Travel distances and lack of secondary employment opportunities further impoverishes the family.
- Family moves back to inner city to live in a slum….
